Reduserer CO2-utslipp med 1,500 tonn
The Faro Airport project represents a milestone in VINCI Airports' environmental strategy. The solar farm is set to produce 30% of the airport's energy requirements, reducing CO2 emissions by 1,500 tons annually. This initiative aligns with VINCI Airports' commitment to reach Net Zero Emission by 2030 across all its Portuguese and European Union airports.
3 MWp solcelleanlegg installert
The solar farm's development highlights the collaboration and expertise within the VINCI Group, particularly through Omexom in Portugal and SunMind, a VINCI Concessions subsidiary. SunMind financed, developed, and operates the 3 MWp capacity solar farm, executing a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with VINCI Airports. Omexom was responsible for supplying, installing, and commissioning 6,440 solar PV panels over a 4.7-hectare area and integrating the solar plant with the airport's electrical system.
Suksess til tross for COVID-19
The project showcases the benefits of decentralized business units and local expertise within the VINCI Group. Despite challenges such as material supply issues due to COVID-19, airport-specific logistics, and unexpected underground structures, the Omexom team successfully delivered a state-of-the-art solar farm, emphasizing the importance of internal collaboration and innovation.
Fremtidige muligheter for grønn energi
The Faro Airport solar farm underscores the significant potential for self-consumption solar projects in Portugal. According to Luis Silva, Business Unit Manager for Omexom, rising energy prices make such investments appealing to companies, suggesting further opportunities not just in PV but also in green hydrogen production using solar energy.
