2 MNOK bøte for Norled

Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has fined Norled AS with an amount of 2 million NOK for constructing electrical facilities in the Vestland county without the necessary permits, breaching a significant provision in the energy law.

The project involves the construction of a ferry charging station (fergeladeanlegg) at Årvika ferry quay in the municipality of Sande, as part of the electrification of the Årvika-Koparnes ferry connection. Norled began construction prior to receiving permission from NVE, which was only granted after the unauthorized act was discovered during the agency's processing of the application in March 2022.

NVE emphasizes the seriousness of building electrical installations without a permit, as it undermines the concession system. The illegal construction in Sande is part of a broader review by NVE of known breaches of concession obligations. Following the investigation, Norled was notified in September 2023 that NVE was considering imposing a fine for the illicit construction.
