Strategisk plassering og fleksibilitet

The Centre d'Activités Onex-Jardins is strategically located on the border between the municipalities of Onex and Lancy on the Avenue des Grandes-Communes. The building's set-back position creates a notable space, defining the entrance to the town of Onex while transitioning from the commercial development area to an existing residential region. The project was designed to facilitate mixed activities through a versatile structure allowing users to organize the space flexibly.

Hovedbygning og fløyer

The building comprises three main structures: a head building with four floors facing south towards Avenue des Grandes-Communes, and two parallel wings with three floors each, extending east-west towards the allotment gardens. These structures are interconnected by a horizontal network of glazed corridors and bridges surrounding two vertical circulation cores that organize the floors. The head building and wings may also be extended in a second phase, as planned.

Allsidige fasiliteter og parkering

The project enables a wide array of activities with a central entrance hall of 1,800 m² and 1,640 m² per floor plus a divisible administrative area of 440 m². Technical rooms, 140 car parking spaces, and 800 m² of storage space are located in two basement levels. Implenia, the main occupant utilizing 90% of the space, requested slight adaptations to suit its needs, including administrative offices on upper floors and reception and conference rooms on the ground floor. Retail areas are primarily located on the ground floor.

Arkitektonisk design og volum

Architecturally, the structure emphasizes its distinct volumes in material and orientation, particularly the head of the composition, framed by two concrete sails and a metal grid along the south façade for solar shading. The wings feature a strong horizontal emphasis through black precast concrete cores, which reduce the vertical divisions within the office spaces. The overall building volume measures 50,700 m³. This project, designed by Fabio Fossati Architectes, was completed between June 2006 and June 2008.
