Ti kilometer tunnel og veiforbindelser
The Copenhagen Eastern Ring Road is a major infrastructure project focusing on improving urban transportation by diverting traffic away from downtown Copenhagen and surrounding neighborhoods. The approximately ten-kilometre road includes an immersed tunnel with four junctions, connecting northern and southern motorway networks to ease travel and support new urban developments in the Oresund region.
Forprosjekt med miljøfokus og godkjenning
Sund & Bælt, responsible for maintaining Denmark’s infrastructure, has engaged a joint venture between Arup and COWI to develop the preliminary design. This design will serve as the foundation for the environmental impact assessment and future construction approvals. The project emphasizes sustainability throughout its planning and design stages, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact.
Innovasjonsworkshops for klimavennlig bygging
Innovation workshops organized by Arup and COWI involved 55 experts from around 30 companies and organizations. These workshops identified approximately 40 initiatives to reduce carbon emissions from materials and construction activities and to enhance biodiversity. Key strategies include minimizing the use of traditional high-carbon materials such as cement and steel, and adopting electric and hybrid machinery, hybrid ships, and alternative marine fuels to reduce fossil energy consumption.
Bærekraft integrert i infrastrukturdesign
The integration of sustainability as a core design criterion ensures the infrastructure will progressively lower its carbon footprint while promoting environmentally responsible practices. The project not only aims to deliver quicker transportation and improved traffic infrastructure but also supports urban development in Copenhagen’s Eastern harbor areas such as Nordhavn, Amager, and the future artificial island Lynetteholm.
Fremtidens miljøvennlige infrastrukturmodell
By embedding sustainable design and innovative solutions, the Eastern Ring Road project serves as a model for future large-scale infrastructure, balancing environmental benefits with societal well-being and economic viability.
