Konsolidert Hovedkvarter i Genève
Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has consolidated its international headquarters in Geneva into a single, new building to centralize its operations. Previously, JTI's 1,000 employees were spread across three buildings. The new headquarters had objectives of staying in Geneva, being easily accessible by public transport and close to the airport, and embodying JTI's principles of innovation and modernity.
Ikonisk Design av SOM
The building was designed by the London office of SOM, known for iconic projects like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Freedom Tower in New York. Located on a triangle-shaped plot near the railway tracks at the entrance to Geneva, the structure is a square tube that closes in on itself in the shape of a triangle. The two long sides of the triangle merge at different levels, creating cantilevers of 80 and 60 meters, which surround an inner courtyard. The building stands 51 meters tall, supported by only two points, showcasing both architectural and engineering prowess.
Optimalisert Arbeidsmiljø
Designed to provide pleasant working conditions for around 1,000 employees, the headquarters has nine levels above ground. Levels three to six allow full circulation around the building due to its overhangs, and vertical movement between floors is facilitated by elevators. The building includes numerous meeting and work areas, as well as spaces for social interaction such as a fitness center, two restaurants, a cafeteria, and an auditorium.
Offentlig Tilgjengelig Gårdsplass og Barnehage
The building's courtyard, formed by the triangle of the structure's two wings, features a water mirror and is accessible to the public, allowing passage through the building and access to footbridges over the SBB tracks. Additionally, an annex includes a daycare center open to both JTI employees and local residents, managed by the Geneva Early Childhood Service. This complex not only fulfills JTI's objective of modern innovation but also significantly enriches the community with its public amenities.
