Redesigning Major Traffic Junction

The Place de La Sallaz, located in the upper part of Lausanne, was a major car junction with heavy traffic from five major roads. The city authorities aimed to redevelop this intersection into a pedestrian-friendly square that incorporates public transport and retail stores. This initiative is part of the broader goal to enhance the attractiveness and functionality of the La Sallaz district.

Developing Mixed-Use Shopping Center

The project's primary objective was to construct a modern shopping center that would house large supermarkets and retail stores, complemented by office spaces. The design also included residential apartments to create a mixed-use development. This construction aimed to transition the area from a transit zone to a more inviting and forward-looking space for both the public and businesses.

Innovative Architectural Design

The building's architecture features superimposed concrete slabs serving multiple purposes, such as store awnings at the square level, balconies for apartments above, and terraces where the façade is set back. This structural design reinforces the site's horizontal characteristics. The central building plays a pivotal role in defining the new district, with the entrance to the residences under a canopy that acts as a threshold between public and private areas. The development includes 50 apartments, ranging from two and a half to four and a half rooms per floor.

Construction Timeline and Benefits

Implenia began the construction in June 2014 and completed it in June 2017. The project was designed by Architectes L-Architectes Sàrl from Lausanne. The redevelopment brings significant benefits to the community by creating a friendly environment for pedestrians, enhancing local commerce, and providing contemporary living and office spaces.
