Komplett sporfornyelse Monbijoustrasse
The Monbijoustrasse Streetcar and Infrastructure Renewal project involved the comprehensive renovation of the streetcar track system from the Eigerstrasse junction to the Seftigenstrasse junction in Bern. The existing track system was aged and required replacement, necessitating the demolition and reconstruction of the entire streetcar trough, including drainage components. The project aimed to improve traffic safety for pedestrians and cyclists by incorporating various road and sidewalk measures, alongside the construction of an obstacle-free bus stop and bicycle bypass.

Utility line upgrades were a significant aspect of the project. Electrical, gas, and water lines, along with network connections, were renewed. The northern section of the drainage system was replaced using microtunneling, which included the excavation of six pits functioning as start, intermediate, and target shafts, reinforced by bored piles and shotcrete infills. The southern drainage system was constructed via open trenching. Additionally, the district heating network was expanded, connecting approximately 30 new properties to the system. The entire construction area received new asphalt pavement as completion of the groundwork.
Utfordringer og tidsplan
Situated in a busy inner-city area, the project faced several challenges, including maintaining access and parking for local businesses and residents, coordinating with secondary and subcontractors, and adhering to the construction schedule. The project required staged execution, intensive construction phases, and shift work, including night shifts, to minimize disruption. Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully, with the main construction phase spanning from February 2021 to December 2022.
