Oceanbadet Design Competition Won
Lund+Slaatto Arkitekter, in collaboration with Bjørbekk & Lindheim and the Swedish firm Yellon, won the competition to design the new bathhouse Oceanbadet in Helsingborg. The competition included a prequalification process with over thirty participants, where five anonymous teams ultimately competed for the final contract. The winning proposal is named 'Niveau+'. Oceanbadet will be centrally located in Helsingborg’s harbor basin, serving as a key identity marker for the city and a central part of the new district, Oceanhamnen.
Comprehensive Bathhouse Amenities
The bathhouse will accommodate various needs, including a competitive swimming and diving arena, teaching and training pools, a wellness section, thermal baths, a family pool, and a gym. Family-friendly amenities such as water play areas, wave pools, and indoor as well as outdoor water slides are planned. The elevated pool level ensures views of the Öresund and harbor basin while preventing unwanted intrusion. The competitive pools will be located in the southwestern part of the facility with a spectator capacity of up to 2000 people.
Sustainable and Heritage Materials
Materials used in the construction of Oceanbadet emphasize sustainability and local heritage. The lower sections of the façades will be constructed using recycled bricks, while sawn solid bricks will be used for the raised surfaces. Some portions will feature Solanum cladding in conjunction with glass sections. The interior façades will be lined with wood, complemented by adjacent laminated wood columns to create a relief effect. These material choices reflect Helsingborg's history and commitment to environmental sustainability.
Opening by Christmas 2027
The project is scheduled to begin construction and is expected to open by Christmas 2027. The design and selection of materials prioritize local architecture and environmental considerations, aiming to create a sustainable and unique landmark for Helsingborg. By providing a multitude of aquatic activities and facilities, Oceanbadet is anticipated to enhance Helsingborg's appeal as a travel destination and meet the recreational and competitive needs of its residents and visitors.
