Ny 2,7 km dobbeltspor tunnel
The SBB Bözbergtunnel project focuses on replacing the existing Bözberg tunnel between Frick and Brugg to meet new clearance gauge requirements of 4.0 meters. The new construction is a 2.7 km long double-track tunnel that runs parallel to the old railway tunnel at intervals of 30 to 50 meters.
Tunnelboring og kryssganger
The majority of the tunnel (2503 meters) will be excavated using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM-S) with a diameter of 12.36 meters, while the initial 108 meters will be excavated manually through a loose rock section. Additionally, five cross passages with technical equipment rooms will be built to connect to the existing tunnel, which will subsequently be converted into a service and rescue passage.
Store utfordringer løst
The project poses significant challenges, including construction along the existing main line and tunneling through sulphate-containing rock and the catchment area of the thermal spring Schinznach Bad. Measures such as pre-cut nail walls, extensive sealing, and installation of a low-voltage system are employed to overcome these challenges.
CHF 145m, Implenia ansvarlig
As the general contractor, Implenia Switzerland Ltd is responsible for all aspects of execution, including project planning, excavation, interior work, and commissioning. The new tunnel features a fixed carriageway and overhead conductor rail, and the project is valued at CHF 145 million (EUR 132 million).
Ferdigstilt mai 2022
The construction, which commenced in May 2015, was completed in May 2022. This project not only enhances rail transport infrastructure but also ensures compliance with contemporary clearance requirements, thereby supporting efficient and safer rail operations between Frick and Brugg.
