Tunnel under Stora Hamnkanalen

The Västlänken Haga-etappen under Stora Hamnkanalen involves the construction of a tunnel section as part of the larger Västlänken railway project in Göteborg. Veidekke has been contracted by Trafikverket to build this tunnel, which consists of approximately 54 meters of concrete tunnel and 16 meters of tunnel carved through bedrock. The tunnel will cross beneath Stora Hamnkanalen near its outlet into the Göta River, making this one of the final and critical segments of the Haga section.

Teknisk krevende tunnelbygging

The construction is technically complex due to the challenging conditions, as the tunnel passes under a canal close to the waterway’s mouth. This demands precise planning and execution in difficult ground and water conditions. Veidekke brings extensive experience and technical expertise from previous collaborative work with Trafikverket on the Västlänken project, enabling safe and efficient tunnel building under these conditions. The contract value is estimated at SEK 280 million before completion of detailed project design.

Arbeidet starter straks, ferdig 2029

The project is scheduled to commence immediately with an expected completion date set for the summer of 2029. This timeline aligns with completing the fourth and last construction contract in the Haga-etappen phase of Västlänken. The work involves complex project organization, continuous coordination with stakeholders, and strict adherence to technical and safety standards to mitigate risks associated with tunneling beneath a water channel.
