22 000 m² opplevelsessenter og parkering
The World of Volvo Opplevelsessenter is a major construction project located in Gothenburg, designed to serve as a combined experience center and parking facility. The project involves building a single structure of approximately 22,000 square meters that will unite Volvo Group and Volvo Cars under one roof, showcasing the brand's history, tradition, and vision for the future. The center will provide a diverse range of functions including exhibitions, entertainment, lectures, conferences, dining, shopping, and musical events, aiming to establish itself as a prominent landmark and destination in the city center.
Sirkulær arkitektur med naturinspirasjon
The design concept, developed by Henning Larsen Architects, draws inspiration from the Scandinavian concept of 'Allemansrätten' (public access to nature), shaping the building as a circular structure that reflects care for nature and people. Architecturally, it references a tree growing on a mountainside, where the mountain is represented by the building's base and the tree by an upper structure supported by curved columns resembling tree trunks. Open spaces with sculptural staircases and large glass façades integrate natural light and the surrounding environment seamlessly into the interior. Additionally, green bridges connecting both sides of Mölndalsåen are incorporated to encourage walking and cycling access, while promoting ecological restoration and integration of the river’s natural environment.
Totalentreprise på 700-800 MNOK
The project is executed as a total contract handled by Billström Riemer Andersson Bygg AB, who also serve as the main contractor responsible for design, planning, and construction, including site remediation and groundwork. The client entities are Liseberg AB and World of Volvo AB, with Henning Larsen Architects A/S leading the architectural design. The contract budget ranges between 700 to 800 million Swedish kronor, and construction commenced in the fourth quarter of 2021. The planned construction duration is approximately 36 months, targeting completion in the third quarter of 2024 and opening to the public in 2024.
Brannsikkerhet med spesialglass
A significant focus within the project has been placed on safety, specifically incorporating fire-safe glass and other fire protection measures to mitigate risks arising from heat gases, smoke, and radiant heat. These considerations are critical to ensure safe evacuation procedures in the event of a fire emergency, underlining the comprehensive risk management integrated throughout the design and construction phases.
Styrker byens kultur og transport
Beyond its architectural and technical ambitions, the World of Volvo Opplevelsessenter is expected to contribute positively to the Gothenburg region by enhancing the area's facilities and offerings. The dual-purpose building will improve transport access with its parking deck and enrich cultural and commercial activities via the experience center. This integration supports the local community by strengthening tourism appeal, creating new opportunities for social engagement, and fostering sustainable urban development.
